William Green began making shoes in the loft above the Corn Merchants in Rushden, Northamptonshire. After the continued success of being a small time ‘cottage industry’ shoe manufacturer, by 1866 William Green began to formalise his workers and create a company under the name ‘William Green & Son. It was around 1875 that ‘Green & Son’ became the iconic name we know today, Grenson.
