One of the first things you'll hear us say when going on about Fjallraven is 'they do their own material y'know', well here's a bit more info on the G-1000. The fabric was born when brand founder Åke Nordin made a jacket out of a tent using tools he'd borrowed from his grandfather.
The G-1000 has been developed and engineered to work with clothing and it's the same now as it was 50 years ago when Åke was a sprightly 24 years old. It is a 65% Cotton, 35% Polyester mix which is then treated with Greenland Wax. Greenland Wax is a mixture of paraffin oil and beeswax, which is produced by a small family up in Northern Sweden.
Now for the clever bit; when damp, the G-1000 expands meaning the worse the conditions get, the better the material performs. Like all good outerwear, G-1000 can be retreated with Fjallraven's Greenland wax.
