Introducing Majestic Select

07/06/2014 14:41

I know nothing about baseball, infact the only match I've watched is when Homer won the City Champs for the Springfield Isotopes. What I can tell you though that we're now stocking Majestic Select who provide kits for the 30 Major League Baseball teams. We've not got any of the buttock hugging kecks I'm afraid but instead some brilliant old school sweats and classic tees. A Japanese brand influenced by their love of American lifestyle and culture who have dipped their fingers into the archives and creatively reproduced vintage styles of the past. Loopback sweats, hoodies and premium cotton pocket tee's with smart NY prints. There's even a grey tee with a big felt red NY on, if felt's your thing.

They're really good and I've sized up from a small to a medium in mine, however that might be down to my ever expanding midriff.

As we know all to well, the Great British weather is unpredictable at best, even more so when we are due some warmer weather and that well earned tan. With this in mind, it's a good idea to be prepared for the worst should the temperature drop or the heavens open. For us, there's certain Spring/Summer essentials that offer the best protection against the elements be it a Norse Projects ELKA Raincoat, a lightweight Sunspel tee, a pair of Italian canvas classics from Superga. One in particular that has served its purpose well already during the Spring months is the athletic sweatshirt.

An obvious option for comfort and relaxing, this wardrobe essential is sometimes undervalued for the situations it unknowingly saves  the day, from the evening chill setting in at that all day BBQ, the unexpected food spillage that needs to be covered up as soon as possible or that unfortunate moment you leave the house and realise you don't have your keys to get back in. The sweatshirt can be as casual as you want it to be or a relaxed smart option for when knitwear is a tad too much for the weather. For a day in the office over a shirt and tie or at weekend with your best pair of battered jeans and trainers, the sweatshirt can be a saviour to many.

Sunspel Classic Sweat Top in Grey Melange
A Weavers Door regular, the classic sweat top by English jersey specialists Sunspel is the ideal sweatshirt for wearing over shirting with a close neck opening and clean, classic detailing. A set in sleeve gives a smarter appearance to the commonly known raglan sleeve. Available in navy and grey melange, we always look to have availability in this sweat, but it's a popular jersey.

Norse Projects Vorm Sweat in Brick Red
The Great Danes at Norse Projects are always on point with their jersey, one of our favourite sweats from them this season is the Vorm sweat. A soft cotton raglan sleeve sweat with a ribbed crew neck, cuff and hem. The Brick Red colour is the perfect companion to any pair of unwashed denims. Also available in Dark Navy and Leaf Green.

Our Legacy 50's Great Sweat in Grey Bucle
A newcomer to the Spring/Summer 2013 season, Swedish contemporary label Our Legacy always keep their collections focused on quality to create clean, unfussy, structured clothing with a Scandinavian style. With a loyal following its their jersey in particular that greats a lot of attention. A clean take on the classic sweatshirt, the 50's Great Sweat is available in Grey Bucle in Navy Bucle.

Carhartt Holbrook Sweat in Mustard
Carhartt for us has always been a premium clothier when it comes to clean unfussy cotton jersey that can be worn anywhere and for anything. The Holbrook sweat is a prime example of this, drawing its classic American workwear heritage, it's a supremely soft cotton blend jersey and features a raglan sleeve and woven Carhartt logo patch. The Mustard colour is a great new colour addition to any wardrobe of staples.

Our Legacy Hobo Sweat Indigo
A brilliant textured sweatshirt by Swedish label Our Legacy gives something different to the jersey table. The Hobo Sweat is crafted from a rugged stitched cotton fabric with indigo thread and non ribbed cuffs and hem to give a real textured handle and relaxed appearance. Looks great worn as is or with shirting underneath.

When it comes to wardrobe essentials the classic tee is up there if not the most overlooked staple every man owns, the versatility of the tee means whether it be worn on the weekend with denim's or during the week to work under a tailored blazer it's one the garments in your wardrobe you should appreciate as a best friend, because it will look after you on many a occasion. There's also something about a plain white tee with a pair of denim jeans that cannot be replicated no matter where and how hard you look, its a classic outfit, timeless while also being as safe as we can go when it comes to dressing. The problem with the classic tee is there's alot out there and while at a first glance on the hanger or online they may all do the same duty, that couldn't be a more of a mistake for a misjudgment. The importance of a tee being well cut, well crafted and made using premium high quality fabric means this staple won't end up being a one wash that doesn't look or do the same for you on every wear.

For us it importance of a good quality tee may not be recognised on face value by everyone but simply put you will no doubt wear this basic more often, it will feel better when you wear it, and most importantly it will last longer. With this in mind (and the reasoning to the rant about the quality of a plain white tee) the Backbone collection of everyday basic's by Nudie Jeans Co. is ideal for those essentials that act as cement in building the ideal wardrobe. The concept of providing the Nudie Jean's denims with a selection of jersey based garments to compliment the arsenal of washes Nudie present goes together nicely, especially with focus on the dry denim's, the Backbone collection offers simple and sustainable jersey garments all crafted from 100% organic cotton and come in a recycled paper packaging shaped like a vinyl cover. Depending on your style on the short sleeve front there's the classic round neck tee featuring ribbing at the neck, stitched down with a 5 mm top stitch, narrow two needle top stitches around the armhole, bottom and sleeve hems teeth stitched and the signature Orange thread is subtly chain stitched along the inside of the neck. Also short sleeved is the henley tee, a four button placket with customised buttons, self fabric binding at the neck with a 1 mm top stitch, bottom and hems are two needle top stitched and the infamous Orange thread runs through the top button hole and chain stitched along the inside neck. The long sleeve pocket sleeve offers a chest pocket while the favourite of the collection for us the classic sweatshirt, lightweight, this dry unbrushed pique sweat features a classic rib insert with flatlock seams along with all the other seams.

All crafted in Portugal and with a great premium finish and handle, the 100% organic cotton Backbone collection is a bit of a no brainer, easy to wear and made to last in all the classic jersey styles you should have in your wardrobe. Available in the safe colours that go with everything: White, Grey Heather, Black and Indigo Navy.
